Spiritual Directors' Institute (SDI) is a three-phased program:

  • Phase One is for those who are exploring the ministry of Christian spiritual direction and desiring professional development in the knowledge of spirituality.

  • Phase Two begins the practicum of actually directing and being supervised. It requires an interview for entry.

  • Phase Three continues the practicum and supervision. It also presents a holistic way of working with the movements of the Holy Spirit in a directee's life.

  • New Program for spiritual directors – Deepening the Practice of Spiritual Direction

Summer Internships

Mercy Center offers special internships in the area of spiritual direction during the summer months. These transformational programs attract people from throughout the world and create communities of prayer, learning, and discernment on our beautiful Burlingame campus.

 

Participants enjoy the benefits of experienced staff, multicultural, multidenominational groups, and focused practicums. Join us and discover what past participants have called "life changing" internship programs. Our summer offerings for 2009 include an Internship in the Art of Spiritual Direction (now in its 25th year). For 2008 we are also offering an Internship in Supervision.  For 2009 we are offering an Internship in the Art of Retreat Direction and an Internship in the Art of Group Spiritual Direction. Programs fill up quickly so please contact us as soon as possible for applications.

 

The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius is offered at Mercy Center from September to May.

 

This is not the thirty-day experience most people associate with the Exercises, but rather it is the ''long retreat'' - a thirty week experience for those who cannot take a month away from their busy lives.

 

The length of the retreat allows time for reflection and integration. It will be given in the following format:

  • A discernment interview, which will be arranged after receipt of completed application.

  • Thirty sessions (one each week) of contemplative prayer in an atmosphere of natural beauty and peace.

  • Nine individual spiritual direction sessions.

  • Two group spiritual direction sessions at each weekly meeting.

  • Two day-long retreats, with the appropriate meal.

  • A twilight/sunrise retreat, with the appropriate meal.
