This retreat is inspired by the Celtic intuition that certain spaces are ‘thin space’, or ‘sacred space’, where the boundary between the visible and invisible, the temporal and the eternal is very thin. Such places/spaces are especially sensitive to the transforming power of God, and they occur not only in the physical landscape, but in our own experience.

During the retreat we will explore some of the sacred spaces in our own stories and reflect on the inner space they represent in our living and journeying. We will focus on seven “sacred spaces” in Celtic spirituality: the infinite knot, the high tower, hilltops, wells, groves and springs, crossing places and boundary ground. We will explore these symbolic places from the point of view both of our personal inner space and of the wholeness and healing of all creation.

RETREAT LEADER

Margaret Silf is a is a spiritual writer and retreat leader. Margaret has a B.A. from the University of London, England, and an M.A. in English from the University of Keele, England. She has studied with the Jesuits on the subjects of prayer and making the Spiritual Exercises in daily life.

MEAL SERVICE

Meals include locally-sourced fresh fruit and vegetables, soups, salads and meat entrees. Our meal service department cannot offer all-vegan or other special menus. For your convenience, we have kitchenettes equipped with microwave ovens and refrigerators located on each residence floor. There is a health food store in Burlingame, a short distance from Mercy Center. Guests are welcome to bring special foods or supplements to retreats.
