A NEW EARTH EMERGING

April 20 and May 18, 2010
7:00 - 9:00 pm
$15 per session (pay at session)

"A New Earth can only be born when our inner purpose (to be awake) and our outer purpose (what we do in the world) are in alignment. The result is “awakened doing.” (from A New Earth)

As we study Eckhardt Tolle’s book A New Earth, deep questions arise: What does the New Earth look like? How do church, education, the economy, health care, earth care, look when we engage in “awakened doing”?

Seeing people, places, works that manifest awakened consciousness feeds our imagination, brings hope and joy, and encourages us to engage in the inner and outer work we are all called to. Come – and bring a friend! Each month we will show a video or have a guest speaker that gives us a look at the New Earth unfolding right now.

Participants will receive advance notice of topics and presenters as they are scheduled – as well as suggested readings.

Upcoming Session

  • May 18 "See I am doing something new.  Now it springs forth.  Do you not perceive it?"  Isaiah 43

Join us for an evening of reflection on the "something new" emerging in us and in our world as we conclude our series for 2009-10. Consider:  How has my seeing changed as I begin to notice regenerativity in people and places and events around me?  How has my own doing changed? Rilke says, “My looking ripens things…”  Let us ripen together the fruits of another year of Conscious Evolution.

Earlier Sessions

  • Feb 16 - Awakening the Energies of Love. Author Anne Hillman was our guest presenter and engaged us in some ways that will put us in touch with our own awakening.
  • Jan 19 - In Defense of Food. We viewed a video of Michael Pollan's talk from the Bioneer conference "In Defense of Food: The Omnivore's Solution." We engaged in a practical application conversation with Christel Casjen, a member of our East-West Meditation Community.
  • Mar 23 - Visioning the Emerging "New Earth". What might it look like when our local communities align inner and outer purpose? We explored the Transition movement, "...an international grassroots movement that builds community resilience in response to the challenges of peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis." The goal of the transition movement is to join together in our local communities to make the transition to a more fulfilling, equitable and sustainable world.
  • April 20 - Falling in Love with Place. Celebrate Earth Day by coming together for an evening of images and stories about your own backyard! All wisdom traditions and teachers remind us that we need to fall in love with our place in order to be really able to live in harmony with it. We have wonderful resources on the Peninsula dedicated to helping us reconnect with the natural world where we live. Karen Harwell and Joanna Reynolds of Exploring a Sense of Place (www.exploringsenseofplace.org) and Jo Coffey of San Bruno Mountain Watch (www.mountainwatch.org) shared their love of place and the ways they put that into action.
